In 2004 NHC did a 40 day focus together called "40 Days of Purpose". It was one of those defining times for us as a church as we pulled closer together and grew in so many ways.
Those 40 Days so greatly impacted us that we soon decided, "We need to do this again in the future." So we will - this fall - in October and November. And we're really excited, especially since our church has grown so much since 2004.
I got to thinking, what if we spent the previous 40 days praying together in preparation for what we hope to see God do among us in the fall? I mean, a church focused on prayer can only be a good thing, right? So thus was birthed "40 Days of Prayer". From September 1 through October 10 we're going to immerse ourselves as a church in prayer.
This blog is one of the ways we'll unite together for prayer. You'll have the opportunity to post prayers, prayer requests, questions about prayer and answers to specific prayers right here. We'll also post articles from writers both outside our congregation and within about prayer to encourage you.
In future posts I'll share some of the creative ways we'll accomplish these 40 Days. There will be something for everyone, both in personal prayer times and in prayer times with others. We're even hosting a regional prayer conference at NHC with internationally reknown speakers coming to teach and challenge us.
God's Word says, "The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and wonderful results." (James 5:16b NLT) That's exciting! Even more so when you take a congregation of "righteous" Christ-followers and compound the prayers.
NHC, let's get ready for God to show us His might and power.

NHC, Everyone who has been blessed with experiencing the 40 Days of Purpose should be getting very excited, their spine starting to tingle, and their heart beating faster. Peoples lives are going to change. People are going to change the lives of other people. I mean wow! God will work in amazing ways in our lives as we all grow in Christ! I can hardly wait because I know the body of Christ is going to grow in number as well as strength. Praise the Lord! Your brother in Christ, Tommy Drake
Is no one home yet? I'll check back in September. Have an awesome August. God bless
Great message on Sunday! Worship was awesome!!!
Wow, cool blog Rick!
Tommy, you are so right. I actually feel a little anxious because I have been feeling that NHC has been on the verge of something crazy, crazy wonderful happening!
Nathan, worship was incredible. I wonder how it sounded to you guys up on the stage during that song where the church sang without instruments. From where I was the voices seemed to blend supernaturally. Is that even possible? What am I asking!?!
I still feel a little bubbly from Sunday!
I too was thrilled with last Sunday. New songs, at least to me, and the message was very rewarding. I felt that the whole church was one voice as the band really outdid themselves, and I think delivered the best service I have seen. Pastor Rick did an outstanding job as usual and really drove home the message in such a way that I was truely amazed.
It justs keeps getting better.
I agree, Marie...that first gathering especially was very cool to hear everyone sing without the band. It was something special.
